Description:

The Egyptian Mau Cats coat dense. glossy. and silky. The coat is medium in length. The eyes are large. almond-shaped and slanting slightly toward the ears. The color of the eyes is light green. The large. alert ears are medium in size with short close-lying hair. The head does not have flat planes and is like a wedge slightly rounded. The muzzle is not short or pointed sharply and the chin is firm. The Egyptian Mau cat is medium size cat that is muscular. The legs are proportionate to the body. The tail is medium long. slightly tapering and thick at base.

Color:

The Egyptian Mau Cats coat pattern is random and may vary in shape and size of spots. These cats comes in three different colors. The Silver Egyptian Mau Cats are a pale silver ground color. These markings are on the head. shoulders. outside of the legs. back and on the tail. The undercoat is usually white to pale silver. The markings are a charcoal color. The Bronze Egyptian Mau Cats are a warm bronze ground. These markings are on the head. shoulders. outside of the legs. back and on the tail. The darkest of these areas are on the back area with lightening on the side to a tawny-buff and fading into a creamy ivory. The undercoat is usually brown. The markings are a dark brown-black color. The Smoke Egyptian Mau Cats are a pale silver ground color. These markings are on the head. shoulders. legs. and tail and include the underside of the cat. The hairs are usually black tipped. The markings are black. The undercoat is a white to pale silver. The Egyptian Mau may also come in several colors that are not eligible for showing. These colors include solid Black. Blue Silver. Blue spotted or dilute bronze. Blue Smoke. and solid Blue.

History:

The Devonshire Rex Cat was discovered in Devonshire. England in 1959. A stray straight-coated female cat had kittens in the home of Miss Cox and one of these kittens was curly-coated. The gene for the curly-coat is recessive and the female must have carried the matching gene. The father was thought to be a stray curly-coated tomcat. The male curly-coated kitten was name Kirlee and became the beginnings of this new breed. To help strengthen and enlarge the gene pool the Devonshire Rex Cats are crossbred to British and American Shorthairs. The Devonshire Rex Cats were discovered in a neighboring county to the Cornish Rex Cats. however. both cats resulted differently and are very different in appearance.

Features:

The Egyptian Mau is affectionate. lively with an extrovert personality. These cats may bond with only one or two people and has intense devotion to them. The Egyptian Mau is extremely smart and can be taught tricks and to walk on a lead. They often express their happiness by chortling in a soft melodious voice and wiggling their tails real fast. This elegant cat with a beautiful spotted coat attracts many admirers at cat shows.

Grooming:

The Egyptian Mau Cats coat is relatively simple to maintain. Gentle brushing is recommended to help remove dead hairs.
