Description:

The Manx cats coat is shorthair or longhair. The shorthair is dense and short with a cottony undercoat. The longhair is dense and medium length with a double coat. The large eyes are round and the color depends on the color of the coat. The medium-sized ears are wide at the base and set somewhat outward. The head is round with defined cheekbones and a strong chin. The muzzle is a little longer than it is wide. The body is medium-sized and compact. The back forms an arch from behind the head to the curved rump. The males are slightly larger and maybe longer than the females. The front legs are shorter than the hind legs. The Manx cats usually have no tail. but may have a full tail. short tail or a rise.

Color:

The Manx cats come in a variety of colors. color combinations and patterns. The solid cats are white. black. blue. red and cream. The silver cats are chinchilla and shaded. The smoke cats are black and blue. The tabby pattern cats are classic. mackerel. and patched. The patched tabby cats are brown. blue and silver. The classic or mackerel tabby cats come in silver. red. brown. blue and cream. These cats also come in tortoiseshell. calico. dilute calico. blue-cream and bi-color.

History:

The Maine Coon Cat originates from Maine in the United States most northeastern state. This cat is one of the longest recognized breeds of cats. The true source of the breed is speculated to be from the arrival of the Pilgrims in the 1600s that traveled from New England to North America. The Maine Coon Cats long coat evolved as protection after surviving many harsh winters in Maine. In 1860 this cat was shown in New York in some of the early exhibitions. They were also shown in New England at fairs and country shows. When Siamese and Persians began to be imported to the United States the Maine Coon Cat lost its popularity. By the 1950s the Maine Coon Cat started gaining recognition again and in 1976 they acquired championship level. After the Persian cat the Maine Coon Cat pedigree is the second most popular in the United States. The Maine Coon Cats are found all over the world.

The Maine Coon Cat is considered a semi-longhair. This breed is one of the largest in the world with an average weight of 20 pounds. The Maine Coon Cat is reputed to be a clever and skillful hunter. This cat is big. powerfully built. and a great climber. The Maine Coon Cat usually has fairly small litters with only two or three kittens. Rexed (curly coated) cats are not approved in this breed.

Grooming:

The Maine Coon Cats coat seldom gets matted. however regular combing and brushing is recommended.
