Dachshund breed

The Dachshund was originally developed in German hundreds of years ago. They were originally bred for hunting Badger, hence the name Dachshund. "Dachs" is the German word for Bader. The elongated body and the shortened legs were bred into this dog to dig the prey out and go inside their burrows forcing them to leave their dens. The Miniature variety was bred to hunt hare and stoat. This breed has also been known to hunt foxes and otters along with the badger.

Dalmatian breed

Dalmatian An ancient breed, it is believed the Dalmatian originated in a section of Yugoslavia called Dalmatia. Their stamina, size, and guard dog capabilities made them a favored breed by English aristocracy. During both World Wars, this breed was used to protect the camps of U.S. soldiers. The Dalmatian is most often associated with being a firehouse dog.

Dandi Dinmont Terrier breed

A playful and affectionate dog, they make wonderful companions. Proper socialization is necessary if this breed is to be placed with small children, or non-canine animals. The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is an intelligent breed that is known for easy trainability.

Doberman Pinscher breed

Originating in Germany during the 1860s, the Doberman Pinscher was used as a personal guardian and watchdog, vermin eradicator, sheep herder, and gun-dog. Developed by Louis Dobermann, this breed is one of a few to be named after an actual person. This noble and proud breed served heroically during both World Wars and is the official combat dog of the United States Marine Corps.

Dogue De Bordeaux breed

The Dogue De Bordeaux is a fearless breed and aggressive at times, this dog is not recommended for an average home environment. This breed is said to have split personalities. Calm and gentle at times, yet protective and dominant at others.
